TOM EVERHART

Tom Everhart is the only artist given permission by Charles Schulz, the creator of Peanuts, to use his art as subject matter.  Tom Everhart utilizes the world of the characters to communicate a new way of seeing.  “I want my work to be very inviting,” he explains.  “I want people to see the attraction in it and be lured in.”

A master at using color, Tom Everhart understands that one of the lures into his art is the attention to color and line.  The attraction that originally enticed Tom Everhart to Charles Schulz was an appreciation for the “brilliant architecture of Schulz’s black ink line.” 

Tom Everhart’s relationship with Peanuts began when as a young man, designing shopping center displays, Tom Everhart’s rendering of the characters in 3-D attracted the attention of Charles Schulz.  Tom Everhart’s love of the Schulz line, and his ability to produce it without copying or tracing, impressed Schulz and launched a friendship that lasted over twenty years until Charles Schulz’s death in 2000.  “I had a collaboration with Charles Schulz”, Tom Everhart says “and I want to keep the work growing, because keeping work growing means that it’s alive.”

Tom Everhart is constantly in search of what he calls “the evolution of the mark.”  From the expressionist slashes of his early work to the prismatic dots of the last few years and the sculptural aspects of his most recent paintings, the strength comes from Everhart’s supreme eye for color and his willingness to experiment with surface texture.  We are pleased to offer Tom Everhart’s fine art collection of posters and time pieces downstairs in Snoopy’s Gallery and Gift Shop.
